These are the coats of arms of the three cantons that were part of the most famous "Rütli Schwur" aimed at freeing the Swiss people and securing independence. Then were the cantons Uri, Schwyz and half cantons Nidwalden and Obwalden. The threesome can be seen on a hut beneath the Rütli Wiese, where the historical vow was made in 1291.
