At the end of May I will be on my way. I will start my trek in Basle, starting on the ViaGottardo, a tour that avoids peeks and great heights, which is good, because it's too early for that. The ViaGottardo runs through villages and small towns in canton Uri and leads up to the Gotthard Pass. There I will cross over into Ticino, which I know and love well. The first part of my journey takes me to the capanna Soveltra (see picture), where I will work for one week. From there I will cross over into Engadine valley in canton Grisons, where I will meet with an Italian friend, who will accompany me on two high routes I have always wanted to do: Sentiero Alpino Bregaglia and Sentiero Alpino Calanca. They will take us to Santa Maria in Calanca, where I will start on the second part of my journey that takes me back into Ticino right up to the capanna Piano delle Creste for another week of work. Then I will be on my way to the Aosta Valley to embark on the high routes 1 and 2, on my way there walking along the famous Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA). Maybe I will walk up Gran Paradiso with a friend if all the odds are right. From Aosta I will continue into Piedmont, walking through Valle Susa and its peeks and other beautiful valleys until I reach the Monviso region, and possibly the peak of Monviso mountain. Then I will discover the beauties of the lower parts of Piedmont and see how far I get. Maybe as far as Entraque. Then it's time for another week of work at Soveltra in mid-October, the last week before the hut closes for the winter. After that, if the weather is fine, I will walk some more, as far as I can get, walking back towards Germany, where I will be living in Berlin in the future. That is if I actually return from the mountains, who knows at which hut I might choose to stay and make a living as "Hüttenwirtin".
