Today Madeira. Earlier this year, the Isle of Man, Bornholm. Long after my months of serious walking in the Alps. So different, in every aspect. But I want to walk. I will not give up.

We didn't have to get up early, but were woken up by the cleaning machines right underneath our window. It is a completely different world. You all know that I love, absolutely love Italy, but it was almost traumatic arriving there after Switzerland. At first everything seemed so ugly, loud and dirty and unorganised. Even Maurizio noticed. Of course that is not the case, but after such a long time in Switzerland that is the first impression. And Omegna doesn't really help. Then we drove up to Campello Monti. Maurizio was in no hurry and so kind as to take me up there. We were not prepared for the wildness, the narrow winding road and the jungle like landscape. It seemed almost impossible that there was actually life up there and driving was no easy task. But there were loads of people around, loads of cars at the tiny village of Campello Monti, because today is an important Italian holiday, Ferragosto or San Lorenzo, and everyone is coming up to this absolutely stunning place to eat, play boccie or just linger all day.
