Porta del Chiot at 2206m. Instead of going directly to rifugio Val Gravio via Colle Aciano Maurizio (who as a surprise arrived at rifugio Toesca last night) suggested to go up to Porta del Chiot, thus taking a longer path. The climb to Chiot was nice, but the idea to leave the marked path and return to Alpe Balmetta "cutting" along the ridge didn't work out. We spent almost three hours trying to find a way to descend. It was terribly exhausting and - for me - nerve wrecking. We finally arrived at Alpe Balmetta, but my knees suffered and I was not "amused". As it was quite late we didn't climb Colle Aciano, but took the low path passing rifugio Amprimo (definitely to be avoided on a weekend) and Il Paradiso delle Rane. From there it was another roughly one hour's walk to rifugio Val Gravio.
