This is Lago Luzzone, it is very big and you need to walk along the right side for quite a long time until you get to the point where the path to Scaradra leads up steeply to the right, to Motterascio straight on and then left. If you zoom the photo you should be able to see Motterascio above the lake. In 2008 we walked up to Piz Terri from there, then to capanna Terri, then to capanna Scaletta and so on. Very nice trek through beautiful Greina.
So we went down the way we had come from on Friday, unfortunately we had to go through the Tunnel again with the car and were terrified that a car would come from the other side, because loads of people were going up towards the valley, it was Saturday and perfect weather after loads of bad weekends. We were lucky though. However, after parking the car at the beginning of Lago Luzzone we had to walk through another long tunnel. I walked through it four years ago, on my way to capanna Motterascio. I didn't enjoy it then and I didn't enjoy it today. See the photo, the tunnel is 833m long, dark (even though there were lights) get and cold.
We didn't go to Zapporthütte from capanna Adula today and that is my fault. I was nervous about the path, which is not marked and there is also a glacier nobody could gave us exact information about. Then a man arrived who did the path the other way round. He told us that it was very difficult, that there were loads of crevasses and that it took his nine hours to get to Adula. That made me nervous and even after we realised that he took a different path than we planned to take (we wanted to go via Passo Cadabi, he took Adulajoch) I couldn't get rid of the bad feeling. I had bad dreams and hardly slept, so in the morning I told Maurizio I preferred not to go. He wasn't happy, but agreed to go back down to Lago Luzzone and do the trek the other way round, walking up to Scaradra di Sopra, then Läntahütte and then Zapporthütte.

The view of the other valley above the village of Dangio. Just after sunset, before there was too much sun for a decent photo, now too little light. Maurizio is already shuffling the cards for scopa. We walked a modest three hours today, went up 700m and went down 20m. Our highest point was, is capanna Adula at 2393m.
The view towards the valley we came from.
This is Adula hut. There are two Adula huts, one is run by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC or CAS) and is situated at 2000m, the one we are sleeping is an UTOE hut, which is part of Ticino Alpine Club FAT and is at 2393m. The view is stunning, the hut is nice and comfortable, the food less satisfying. But, as I must admit, I am spoilt.
I spent a nice evening with Emanuela, we were alone and went out to have a pizza at Gordevio. PIZZA! At a real pizzeria (Belariva) run by real Italians. This morning Arturo took me to Locarno station where I caught the train to Cadenazzo to meet Maurizio. We met at Cadenazzo so that he didn't have to drive into Locarno, where the film festival was still going on. We drove up to Lago Luzzone and left the car after the awful narrow tunnel I still remember walking through four years ago. The walk up to Adula hut wasn't long. The first part takes you mostly on a dirt road through a very nice valley, see photo.
